Learning to Love My Body

This week I found out that the yoga centre I go to is closing down – I am absolutely gutted. I have only been going to Hot Yoga Epsom for a month and have felt the benefits of attending 3 times a week. I have noticed the obvious improvements; I am a lot more flexible and able to hold the postures better, my skin looks great and I feel super chilled and awesome after each class.

The main thing that has impacted me is the changed perception I have of my body image. In the past I have struggled with some pretty crappy gremlins regarding my body image and have been really unkind to myself both physically and mentally. As I’ve got older I’ve learnt to be a lot more compassionate and yoga has been such a fantastic practice to compliment this process, encouraging me to feel good about myself. When I go to class I feel like I can embrace my body, have a calm strength and truly accept who I am. Observing my postures in the mirror for 90 minutes 3 times a week has challenged the previous assumptions I had about myself and body.

I can’t imagine how painful it must be to close a business you feel passionate about. This week I was asked what I would like to leave behind when I pass away, what will my legacy be? My message to the owner and teachers of Hot Yoga Epsom is that through your service you have all provided me with the gift of self acceptance and a healthy body image. So for that I want to say a huge heartfelt thank you. ♥
